Wise Ol' Owl Cookies

Wise Ol' Owl Cookies

Aren't those a HOOT? Sorry, I couldn't help myself!

When I saw these owl whoopie pies on In Katrina's Kitchen, I almost died. I'm pretty sure it was the beginning of my owl obsession. (No, seriously!) If I had kids, I would dress them as owls for Halloween. Yeah, it's bad.

I was determined to make something like her whoopie pies, and soon! After all, since I was going to use store bought cookies (I know, bakers everywhere are dying!), all I had to do was assemble them! There are several things you could use for the eyes, ect. but I'll go over that in a minute.

     adapted from in katrina's kitchen
Sugar cookies (store bought or homemade)
Chocolate frosting
Oreo cookies
Almond Joy Drops

Frost the flat side of the cookie with frosting. Twist Oreo's apart and place the back side down, cream side up for the large part of the eyes. For the small part of the eyes, put a dab of frosting on the back of an Almond Joy drop, and place in desired spot. With the remaining half of the Oreo, cut in half and use for eye brows. Last, put another Almond Joy drop were the nose will go.

One of the best parts about this is making the eyes do fun, googly-eyed-things!

Here are some alternatives for ingredients:
Big part of eye: York Peppermint Patties, Other sandwich cookies
Small part of eye: M&Ms, Junior Mints, Chocolate covered espresso beans, white chocolate chips
Nose: Candy corn, M&M's, white chocolate chips, butter scotch chips
Head: Whoopie Pies, Cupcakes

Believe me, these are EASY! They would be a really fun project to do with kiddos!

These would be fun at a baby shower too. Use blue or pink "features" or frosting! And stay tuned for another Owl inspired idea!
